Amazon Set Nova Premier and Canvas to End in September 2026

Amazon's first Nova flagships were given September 2026 end dates on AWS Bedrock. Tech Insider, citing the Bedrock lifecycle page, says Nova Premier and the original Nova Sonic entered legacy status on 13 March 2026 and were scheduled to stop on 14 September 2026. Nova Canvas and Nova Reel entered legacy on 30 March 2026, with end of life on 30 September 2026.

The original Nova Sonic is not Nova 2 Sonic. The report treats Nova 2 Sonic as a separate model that stays in development. Under the AWS rule described there, a new customer cannot start on a legacy model, and an existing customer can lose access after 15 days without a call. After the end date, requests fail unless Amazon has a private arrangement with that customer.

The July report framed it as a narrower bet

Reuters reported on 28 July 2026, citing Business Insider, that Amazon was winding down Nova Premier, Nova Omni, Nova Reel, and Nova Canvas and putting more weight on frontier-model research. As of 22 August 2026, the same write-up said the Bedrock page still showed 14 September and 30 September unchanged. It pointed at re:Invent 2026, set for 30 November through 4 December, as the likely stage for a frontier-model release.

For anyone still calling Premier, the original Sonic, Canvas, or Reel, the lifecycle page is the list that matters. The September dates were the shutdown schedule, not a new model launch.
