ByteDance’s Doubao to Launch AI Office Product Competing with Tencent’s WorkBuddy as Early as Next Week

ByteDance’s Doubao team is set to unveil a new AI-powered office product as early as next week, according to an August 22 report from IT Home citing First Financial’s New Cortex. This upcoming offering will directly compete with Tencent’s WorkBuddy.

The product is a standalone app split from the 'Work Task' mode within the current Doubao app. A visible sign of this transition is the Doubao web interface, which now features a separate 'New Work Task' entry alongside the 'New Conversation' option.

Over the past week, Doubao has rolled out several key updates to its 'Work Task' mode, including support for mobile remote control of computers, virtual desktop functionality for Windows operations, and a new side work bar to boost productivity.

At ByteDance’s mid-year all-staff meeting on August 6, CEO Liang Rubo stated that the company will focus resources on core businesses like AI, information platforms, and transaction services. Notably, Doubao is being positioned as a new AI backbone, meaning more AI products will be integrated under its umbrella.

On July 30, ByteDance announced an organizational restructuring for its AI business: the Feishu and Doubao product teams merged into a new Doubao team. While Feishu’s existing services remain unchanged, the integration will enable deeper collaboration between Feishu and Doubao in productivity scenarios.
