Doubao’s Personal AI Tools to Be Discontinued on July 15, But Core Features Remain Accessible

Recent rumors have stirred up anxiety among Doubao users, claiming the AI chatbot would be fully taken down on July 15 and all user content would be erased if not exported by October 15. Many users, fearing the loss of their long-standing chat history and generated media, rushed to find backup solutions—only to learn the situation was not as dire as initially thought.
Clarifications reveal that the only feature being removed on July 15 is the ability to create and use personal AI tools (also referred to as UGC roles or custom AI agents). These are the independent AI characters users built via the 'Create AI Agent' option under the 'Agents' tab in the Doubao app. In contrast, core functionalities like direct conversations with Doubao’s main AI, along with image and video generation, remain intact and will continue to be available for users.
For those who depend on their custom AI tools, ByteDance (Doubao’s parent company) is transferring this feature to its official app 'Maoxiang'. Users have two options: either export their custom AI tools before October 15 or migrate them directly to Maoxiang with a single click to keep using them. It’s crucial to note that custom AI tools created before July 15 will be retained until October 15—after that date, they will be permanently deleted if not backed up.
