Tesla Doubao AI In-Car AI OTA Update HW3.0 HW4.0 ByteDance DeepSeek Chat Advanced In-Car Entertainment Service

Tesla China officially initiated the phased rollout of its 2026.14.13 in-car software update on July 31, 2026, bringing ByteDance's Doubao large language model (LLM) to all domestic Tesla models—Model 3, Model Y, Model S, and Model X. However, access to Doubao is restricted by hardware and subscription status.

Eligibility hinges on the vehicle's chipset: Only models with AMD Ryzen chips (HW3.0 platform) can access full Doubao voice features, provided they have an active Advanced In-Car Entertainment Service subscription. Older Intel Atom-equipped models will not get Doubao, receiving only security fixes and minor improvements. HW4.0 models are temporarily excluded; Tesla plans a separate major update for them in the second half of the year with enhanced AI capabilities.

Doubao supports real-time queries, multi-turn conversations, personalized roles (e.g., "Know-It-All", "Storyteller"), and premium voices like Weiwei (lively female) and Yunzhou (steady male). Wake-up options include voice commands ("Doubao Doubao"), screen app taps, or long-pressing the steering wheel's right scroll wheel. Tesla China uses a dual-model setup: Doubao handles control tasks (navigation, AC, media), while DeepSeek Chat manages open-domain chats—boosting response speed.

Why Doubao instead of Tesla's Grok? Localization is key: Overseas models use Grok, but China needs contextually relevant AI. The collaboration took nearly a year—starting with the August 2025 Volcano Engine agreement, followed by April 2026 model filing, June's Volcano Engine Conference announcement, and July's rollout.

Recommendations: AMD Ryzen owners should update for better voice体验; Intel Atom owners can skip; HW4.0 owners wait for the second-half update.

FAQ

1. When is the Doubao update pushed? Phased rollout started July 31, 2026. Check manually or wait a few days if not received.

2. Can my Tesla get Doubao? Need AMD Ryzen (HW3.0) and Advanced In-Car Entertainment subscription. Intel Atom and HW4.0 (for now) are ineligible.

3. Is Doubao free? No separate cost, but requires the paid Advanced In-Car Entertainment Service.
