The 2026 Codex Dream Skin has officially launched, presenting a comprehensive skin solution for the Windows Codex Desktop application. Unlike many existing beautification methods that modify core files like app.asar or use full-screen image overlays—leading to upgrade issues or program malfunctions—this skin offers a non-intrusive alternative.

Codex Dream Skin isn’t just a simple CSS tweak or a background image; it’s a full-fledged skin solution. Its standout feature is the use of Chrome DevTools Protocol (CDP) dynamic injection, which means it doesn’t alter the official app.asar file or overwrite any resource files. This approach preserves all native Codex components and interaction logic—from the bottom function area and project selection to input boxes—while enhancing the visual appeal.

Many might initially mistake it for an image overlay, but that’s not the case. The skin uses an independent top banner (replaceable separately) while keeping all underlying components functional: feature cards are clickable, project selection works as intended, input boxes accept text normally, and all shortcuts remain operational. No more image blocks rendering the interface unresponsive.

The CDP dynamic injection workflow is straightforward: when Codex starts, Codex Dream Skin connects to the local CDP, injects CSS dynamically, inserts the banner, and completes skinning. This method avoids modifying the exe, app.asar, or official resources—after an official Codex update, users just restart Dream Skin to reapply the theme.

Codex Dream Skin supports Windows Codex Desktop, automatic theme injection, retention of all official interactions, refresh/restart capabilities, post-upgrade reapplication, and one-click restoration to the official interface. No repeated file overwrites are needed.

Installation is simple: run scripts/install-dream-skin.ps1 once to create a desktop shortcut. Future launches use this shortcut, and the theme loads automatically. To restore the default interface, run the 'Codex Dream Skin - Restore' shortcut—no Codex reinstallation is needed, and no modifications remain.

Traditional skin methods often involve unpacking app.asar, replacing CSS, and repackaging—leading to broken upgrades, repeated rework, startup failures, and validation errors. Codex Dream Skin bypasses these issues with runtime dynamic injection, keeping the official program intact and reducing maintenance effort.

The complete package includes the codex-dream-skin directory (agents, assets, references, scripts, SKILL.md). Users must use the entire directory—copying only CSS or images causes script failures.
