US-Iran Tensions Escalate: Military Strikes, Oil Market Impacts, and White House's Exemption Plan

Geopolitical tensions between the United States and Iran have flared up in recent days, with Iran reporting that U.S. military strikes over the past week have caused around 300 casualties. Iranian officials have issued a stern warning, stating that any breach of their terms will trigger "resolute retaliation" and that Iran will not take the initiative to engage in talks with the U.S.
As the conflict continues to threaten global oil markets, the White House is said to be considering extending the "ship ban" exemption to curb rising oil prices. One of the discussed proposals would allow foreign-registered ships to transport cargo between U.S. domestic ports, though it may include geographic limitations, restricting the exemption to specific areas only.
The escalating tensions have already had a tangible impact on energy prices: crude oil futures have risen for three straight days, hitting a one-month high after the U.S. launched new strikes on Iran Wednesday. At one point, the gains expanded to more than 1% as market participants reacted to the geopolitical risks.
