ByteDance Launches Doubao Work Agent: Deep Dive Into Its Feishu Integration and Productivity Features

ByteDance officially launched "Doubao Work" on August 25, marking its first AI Agent product since the integration of Feishu and Doubao teams earlier this month. Positioned as a productivity-focused tool, Doubao Work aims to shift the AI competition from casual chat to practical work assistance, aligning with the industry trend of major tech companies pivoting toward "doing work" rather than "chatting."

One of the first questions users might have is how Doubao Work differs from the regular Doubao app. While both share a similar interface, Doubao Work lacks the casual chat option, focusing entirely on productivity scenarios. Currently, Doubao Work is only available as a desktop client—mobile users can access its features via the regular Doubao app or through Feishu, which has integrated the tool into its ecosystem.

Doubao Work offers a range of office AI capabilities: it can draft plans, summarize meetings, create reports, analyze data, and handle document, spreadsheet, and PPT tasks. A notable feature is its human-AI co-writing function, allowing users to edit documents directly or ask AI to optimize specific sections. It also supports local file access—for example, it can insert images from a desktop folder into a document seamlessly. Additionally, the tool can generate web applications like a match-three game (as tested by Kaiji Laboratory), which users can modify without coding experience.

What sets Doubao Work apart from other AI tools is its deep integration with Feishu. Users can log in using their Feishu accounts, gaining access to enterprise knowledge and work context within their permission scope. This integration also means documents created in Doubao Work are searchable in Feishu, creating a closed-loop document management system. For instance, when logged in via Feishu, Doubao Work can summarize past article topics, analyze content, and even suggest future story ideas based on the user's work history.

For early adopters, ByteDance is offering a 30-day free subscription to the standard version of Doubao Work—equivalent to about 68 yuan in value—either by downloading the desktop client or upgrading the regular Doubao app to access the work features.

Doubao Work enters a crowded market with rivals like Tencent's Workbuddy and Alibaba's Qianwen Office already established. Internet analyst Zhang Shule notes that while major tech companies are competing on user acquisition paths, the real differentiator will be product quality. "The key lies in whether the product provides a high-quality experience to attract enough users, which in turn maximizes potential paying customers," Zhang said. He also emphasized that skill reusability—how easily the AI can adapt to simple or personalized tasks—is a critical factor where all players are still on the same starting line.

Despite the competition, Doubao Work's Feishu integration and comprehensive productivity features make it a tool worth trying. As the AI office space evolves, the battle will hinge on which product can deliver the most practical and user-friendly experience.
