ByteDance Merges TRAE and Coze into Doubao, Launches Unified AI Office Brand Amid Fierce Competition
ByteDance consolidates its AI office ecosystem by merging TRAE and Coze teams into Doubao, set to launch the unified 'Doubao Work' brand this week, as...
ByteDance is intensifying its push into the AI office sector with strategic integrations and brand unification. On August 24, the company announced that its TRAE and Coze (扣子) teams will be fully incorporated into the Doubao (豆包) system, a move aimed at streamlining its AI office product lineup.
Under the new structure, TRAE Work and Coze’s work scenario capabilities will merge with Doubao’s existing features, while TRAE IDE and CLI will continue as part of Doubao’s programming product line. This adjustment solidifies Doubao’s position as ByteDance’s core AI business, with the upcoming launch of 'Doubao Work'—an independent AI office product—slated for this week as the company’s unified brand for AI office solutions.
ByteDance stated the integration aims to align product and technical resources to enhance user experience, assuring existing users their rights will remain unaffected.
Recent weeks have seen rapid updates to Doubao’s office features: on August 17, remote computer control via mobile was added to the 'Work Task' mode; August 18 brought a 'virtual desktop' for Windows operations; and August 21 introduced 'Skills Connector' and 'Work Team' functions, offering over 200 standardized tools for custom workflows.
This follows a July merger of the Feishu (飞书) and Doubao product teams, led by Doubao head Zhao Qi—ByteDance’s largest To B adjustment since 2021, centered on AI.
QuestMobile’s 2026 H1 AI native app list shows Doubao leading with 382 million monthly active users (MAU), followed by Qianwen (167 million) and DeepSeek (130 million). However, industry insiders note that user count alone isn’t enough; competition hinges on scenario depth, workflow integration, and enterprise barriers.
The July AI Product Rankings - Desktop List reveals domestic AI office desktop MAU at ~30 million. Tencent’s WorkBuddy (11.15 million MAU) and Baidu’s Dazi (6.74 million MAU) dominate, with Dazi seeing a 1063.79% month-on-month growth and WorkBuddy at 304.40%.
ByteDance’s TRAE and Coze were also top performers. Merging these three products—TRAE (for developers), Coze (low-code AI), and Doubao (consumer assistant)—into 'Doubao Work' is a bid to unify product logic, tech stacks, and user mindsets.
Key questions remain: Do users want an all-in-one entry or specialized tools? Can cross-team integrations overcome磨合期 challenges? These are issues ByteDance and peers must address.
