ByteDance Merges TRAE and Coze into Doubao, Forging a Unified AI Work Entry Point

ByteDance has announced a major restructuring of its AI office product lines, merging the TRAE and Coze teams into the Doubao ecosystem. Post-adjustment, TRAE Work and Coze will integrate their work-scenario capabilities with Doubao, while TRAE’s IDE and CLI tools remain independent programming products under the Doubao brand. All related teams now report to Zhao Qi, Doubao’s product lead.

The company emphasized this adjustment clarifies Doubao’s position as the core AI business, shifting focus of all AI office products to Doubao. Doubao will launch a standalone 'Doubao Work' product as early as this week, serving as ByteDance’s unified AI office brand and entry point. Existing user rights will not be affected, though details like launch date, full features, and pricing are undisclosed.

This integration is part of a year-long effort to consolidate AI productivity tools around Doubao. Zhao Qi took charge of Doubao in September 2025, with Feishu product leaders later adding dotted-line reports to him. In July, Feishu’s product team merged into Doubao, with Feishu head Xie Xin reporting to Zhao Qi.

TRAE brings programming and general office capabilities—its IDE/CLI remains separate for developers, while TRAE Work merges into Doubao Work. Coze’s strengths in agent creation, tool connection, and workflow configuration will power customized services in Doubao Work.

Previously, overlapping features across Doubao, TRAE Work, and Coze caused redundancy and user confusion. Doubao Work aims to unify entry points, forming a layered structure: general AI/office via Doubao Work, professional programming via TRAE IDE/CLI, agent tools via Coze, enterprise infrastructure via Feishu, and commercialization via Volcano Engine.

Industry peers like Alibaba (integrating into Qianwen Office) and Tencent (advancing WorkBuddy) are also streamlining AI office tools, shifting competition to long-task execution and tool integration.

Success depends on seamless cross-product integration (accounts, data, permissions) rather than just org structure. Doubao Work will be the first test of this strategy.
