On August 25th, ByteDance officially rolled out "Doubao Work"—a new productivity-oriented AI agent, marking the first release since the integration of Feishu and Doubao product teams last month. This launch aligns with the industry shift among tech giants, where AI development focus has moved from casual chat to practical work tools.

For users, the primary distinction between Doubao and Doubao Work lies in scenario focus: while the original Doubao supports both chat and work modes, Doubao Work removes casual chat options entirely, prioritizing productivity. ByteDance told Kaiji Lab that Doubao Work is accessible via three channels: its standalone PC client, the original Doubao app, and Feishu. Notably, the standalone client is only available on desktop (no mobile app on App Store yet), so mobile users must access it through Doubao or Feishu. Feishu has also upgraded its former Doubao enterprise edition entry to Doubao Work, allowing Feishu account login which inherits users' enterprise knowledge and permission systems.

Doubao Work offers core office functions: drafting plans, organizing meeting minutes, writing reports, analyzing data, and supporting human-AI co-writing for documents, spreadsheets, and web pages. A Kaiji Lab test found it could generate a fully functional web-based match-three game in just six minutes, with easy edits via natural language or built-in tools—no coding required. It also retains local file access, enabling tasks like inserting desktop images into documents.

Early adopters can get a 30-day free trial of the standard subscription (valued at ~68 yuan) by downloading the standalone client or upgrading their existing Doubao app.

Industry analyst Zhang Shule points out that while tech giants compete on user acquisition paths, the real differentiator is product quality—specifically, the ability to create reusable, user-friendly AI skills. "All major players are still on the same starting line in this aspect," he adds.
